Diffuse hair loss is the most common type of hair loss. This is not medically understood. Most medicine does not understand the hair cycle. Diffuse means the hair loss is spread diffusely over the scalp. A healthy hair cycle releases 70 to 160 hairs every day. If we don’t have a healthy hair cycle releasing hairs, then there is problem with the hair cycle which could affect hair growth. Daily hair loss is normal for your hair cycle. Triggered diffuse hair loss is not normal and disrupts the hair cycle.

When diffuse hair loss takes place, the body will release the anagen growing hairs as well as the telogen releasing hairs. Telogen hairs are released because a new hair is pushing it out. When triggered, anlagen hairs can be pushed prematurely into the Telogen releasing phase. The result is an empty follicle. The empty follicles have to wait to come back into the natural cycle for a new hair to grow. This can take up to and over 12 months.

Diffuse Hair Loss Brisbane and The Hair Count:

  • Anagen hairs are growing hairs
  • Catagen hairs are resting hair
  • Telogen hairs are releasing hairs
  • Individual hair cycle is directed by DNA and can be altered by triggers
  • Diffuse hair loss can result in over 300 hairs releasing a day

Diffuse hair loss could also be called anagen effluvium because the growing hairs are triggered to release. Diffuse hair loss is commonly referred to as telogen effluvium. Anagen effluvium, Telogen effluvium or diffuse hair loss is always triggered in the body 3 month earlier than the hair loss.

Triggers for diffuse hair loss are significant. Seasonal changes do not cause diffuse hair loss. If you notice your hair loss around the same time every year, look deeper into what is happening with your health and lifestyle around those times and specifically 3 months earlier.

If you do experience hair loss visit your doctor as soon as possible. They should know specific tests they do to eliminate possible health causes of the hair loss. Common blood tests for hair loss include: thyroid, iron studies, blood sugar, general health check with chemistry, blood analysis, Vitamin D levels, cholesterol HDL and LDL, Vitamin B12, folate and other minerals such as magnesium, copper and zinc.

In some cases, your doctor can see everything is within range. That may be so but, always as for a copy to share with Absolique Trichologist who will look beyond the reference range because we understand low levels, moving levels and high levels can cause or indicated causes of hair loss.
